Retaining walls are used when your desired ground level leaves unsupported masses of soil that need retaining, there is many different types of retaining walls the most common is a H block wall, this is a very strong and affective retaining wall constructed from 9inch hollow concrete blocks that are filled up with concrete once wall has set, you can face this kind of wall with bricks, stone or it can be rendered.
